Mission's Magnificent Mr. McAteer
a tall tale written by the members of Team 13
Mrs. Brunner's Second Grade Class, 2009-2010
Our class participated in the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs project hosted by jenuinetech.com. We chose to write our own tall tale. Stay tuned for the illustrations to go with this TALL tale!
Once upon a time, at Mission Elementary School, Mr. McAteer, the principal, was working in his office when he heard an announcement.  "A giant spider is on the spiderweb toy on the primary playground!"

Mr. McAteer sprang into action.  He ordered the school to go into a lockdown.  While the students and teachers hid under their desks, Mr. McAteer rushed out to the playground. He spied a jump rope on a table and used it to lasso the giant spider around its neck.  After he finished tying up the spider, he told everyone that the lockdown was over.  The giant spider was taken to the San Diego Zoo, where it still lives.

A few months later, Mr. McAteer found a dog in front of Mission School.  He decided to keep him and named him Rocky.  He fed Rocky healthy food, and Rocky grew and grew and grew until he was as big as Mr. McAteer.  He was so large that Mr. McAteer could ride him around the school.  They were checking out the P.E. field when they discovered a giant snake in the field.  Rocky jumped at the snake and bit its head off, keeping Mission School safe once again.

A little while later, Team 13 kids were running laps on the track. All of a sudden, wasps came and began to follow the kids.  They ran and screamed as they tried to get away from the wasps.  Mr. McAteer and Rocky heard the screams and ran out to see what was the matter.  Mr. McAteer grabbed a giant water gun and sprayed the wasps.  They flew away, and Team 13 was safe.

Another day a giant mother cat was walking around Mission School looking for her kittens.  She thought the kindergartners were her kittens and began to pick them up and carry them around in her mouth.  Rocky came by and helped her find her kittens in the primary bathroom.  She let the kindergartners go and finally left Mission School.

One warm day a giant pizza suddenly fell out of the sky and fell on Mission School's cafeteria.  The students were all trapped inside.  Mr. McAteer quickly came over, grabbed a knife, and began to cut the pizza into small enough pieces to give to the students.  They all began to eat it, and, at last, could leave the cafeteria.  The students of Mission School were so happy that Mr. McAteer saved them that they gave him a trophy for being
THE MAGNIFICENT MR. MCATEER!
