Aloha from Mrs. Jensen's First Grade Class!

We live on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii. Maui, nicknamed the "The Valley Isle", is the 2nd largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Each of the 8 major islands has an emblem of its own. Lokelani, a small deep-pink rose represents Maui and our color is a matching bright pink or 'akala. Popular attractions on Maui include Haleakala volcano, Seven Sacred pools near Hana, the old whaling town of Lahaina and the viewing of migrating whales each winter. Our island is the world center of wind surfing and the home to those "crispy" Maui potato chips and "sweet' Maui onions.

Kula Elementary School, a K-5 school, with an enrollment of under 500 students, is located in "Upcountry" Maui, on the slopes of Haleakala Crater, (meaning "House of the Sun"). Our school sits on 14 acres of beautiful countryside offering a panoramic view of the coastline, towns and cane fields below.

We currently have 26 students, 17 boys and 9 girls in our class.
There is one other first grade class.

Some fun outdoor activities include playing soccer, riding horses or
going to the beach to surf and boogie board.
GameBoy, PlayStation, and Nintendo games are a favorite for many of us.

We love to eat many of the local style food such as poi, laulau, spam
musibi, teriyaki beef, papaya, shave ice and POG juice. (passion,
orange, guava juice blend).
