Mrs. Bava's Community Description
We live in a suburban community about 25 minutes
outside of our capitol, Hartford CT. We are 10 minutes from a
major airport - Bradley International Airport. Broad Brook is a
community within East Windsor. Our town has about 10, 000 people in it
and we cover about 26 square miles. We are located very close to a large
business which employs many in our town, Hamilton Standard. Hamilton
Standard is where they design airplanes and they make the pieces for the
space shuttle. We have one elementary school (K-4) , a middle school
(6-8) and one high school. We have a little over 600 students in our
elementary school. We have six second grade classrooms with 22 in each
class. In our class we have 13 boys and 9 girls. Our students
either get dropped off by their parents or go on the bus. We have 12
buses for our school.
In our town we have a variety of housing, we have low income housing, apartments, townhouses, condos, and single family homes. We have two volunteer fire departments, a Wal-Mart, a 12 movie theatre, and FOUR Dunkin' Donuts! (which is a donut/coffee shop chain) East Windsor is known for its tobacco growth, we are a farming community where many crops grow such as strawberries, blueberries, corn, and tobacco to name a few. Most residents are employed within the farming industry, the airport, or Hamilton Standard. East Windsor was originally settled in the 17th century as a farming community. We live in the Connecticut River Valley which leads us to fertile soil, great for farming.
Our state's flower is the Mountain Laurel and our State Bird is the robin. Popular nearby attractions include Six Flags New England and Mystic Aquarium. We were supposed to have our annual winter festival this weekend, but we had to cancel it because we have no snow!
We are about an hour's drive to the ocean or the mountains, there we enjoy going to the beach, crabbing, making sandcastles, snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling. We also have many state parks where we love to hike and picnic. Our students are interested in Webkins, Playstation, and many sports.
